YOUNG MOTHER GETS $10,000 PHONE CALL WHILE HOUSECLEANING:
11 WINNERS GATHER UP $110,000 U.S. FROM CELLCOM
“Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!”screamed Decontee Togba when she answered the phone on Saturday and heard T-Max of Sky Radio tell her she had just won $10,000 U.S. from Cellcom. Even after T-Max asked her to calm down, nothing could stop the excitement of the moment for Decontee, who is 29 and the mother of three small children. When the call came, she was cleaning her house at Soul Clinic Forest. Within minutes, her sister was running to the neighbors to share the great news as Decontee made her way to the Cellcom store at Red Light to be picked up and brought to Cellcom headquarters.
“I never thought I could win,” she said. The same thought was shared by the other ten winners of Cellcom’s “Be A Millionaire” raffle. On Saturday afternoons over the past 11 weeks, Cellcom has thrilled crowds of hundreds at its headquarters with song and dance performances by popular local artists, such as Tokah Tomah and her dancers. It has surprised schools and educational programs with computers, desks and donations. And it has changed the world of one lucky Cellcom subscriber each week who has answered the phone and heard, “You have just won $10,000 from Cellcom!”
As the crowd waited for Decontee’s arrival at Cellcom, Tomah and other cultural performers continued to entertain the crowd. Later Cellcom also announced its donation to the Walk-the-World campaign set for Sunday, June 7. Walk-the-World is a global event meant to raise awareness about hunger, especially child hunger. In Liberia, the walk is expected to draw over 50,000 adults and children to walk 3k. The event is sponsored by the Government of Liberia and the UN World Food Programme, which intend to devote funds from the walk to girls’ education. “We all have learned the value of girls’ education in lifting up whole societies. Educate a girl and you educate a village,” commented Avishai Marziano, Cellcom’s CEO. “Given that Cellcom’s donation shows our support for improving women’s lives, it’s only fitting that today’s $10,000 winner is a young mother with young children. Their future just got a lot brighter.”
