Cellcom Raffle Tops $100,000 U.S. to Average Liberians

Robert Baryogar of MacDonough Street, Monrovia, father of eleven children, is all smiles. Two weeks ago, he won $10,000 U.S. in Cellcom’s “Be A Millionaire” raffle. “Even though I saw other people winning on television, I did not believe it was real,” said Baryogar. “It is real! Now I tell everyone to keep their phone with them on Saturdays. Don’t let it go far from you!” Because Baryogar talked for $4.00, he had two electronic tickets in the Cellcom raffle. “And now I have $10,000 U.S. in the bank. I am going to leave it there until I figure out how best to use it for my children’s future.”

Baryogar was an honored guest at this past Saturday’s “Be A Millionaire” raffle. He watched volunteers and judges take turns pulling a total of five numbered balls from a glass box and listened to the music of performer Jon Bricks. When this week’s $10,000 winner answered the phone, Baryogar joined the crowd of hundreds in celebration. Like his own experience two weeks earlier, the life of an average Liberian was changed in that moment.

The blessed winner this week is Amos Korkollie, a 35-year-old father of two from Kakata. He is the tenth Liberian to win Cellcom’s weekly $10,000 prize. Korkollie, who travels each day from Kakata to his job at a supermarket, cried out “Thank God!” when he was told the good news over the phone. By Monday morning, he will be at Cellcom headquarters to collect his $10,000 check, deposit it in the bank, and begin to think, just like winner Robert Baryogar, about how he can use the money to help his children’s future.
